Small guided-missile ships of 22800 project (“Каракурт” code) are multifunctional short-range artillery missile ships with shallow displacement (small corvettes by another classification). They refer to ships of the third rank. The official purpose of the ships is short-range combat and peacetime missions. It is planned that “Каракурт”, adapted for action on the open sea will supplement small guided-missile ships of “Буян-М” 21631 project, designed for shallow seas and large rivers (conventionally - river-sea class vessel).
